Generally size adjectives come before the noun. In the case of "robe longue", you can also say "une longue robe". When you put it after the noun, it means that you are referring to a specific category of dress. "longue robe" would mean that the dress is long, and that you are merely commenting on a quality of the dress. "robe longue" would mean that you are classifying it in the big category of long dresses, therefore not saying that the dress is especially long in itself.
